Sometimes you cannot freely choose the time of year for your trip, especially when you are bound to school holidays. That was exactly the case for us. We spent two weeks on the island of Rhodes, starting in the second to last week of October and ending on the first of November.
For the first week, we deliberately chose the seaside town of Lindos. Our hope was to still enjoy swimming at this late point in the season while benefiting from a much calmer atmosphere. This approach had already worked well for us on Cyprus, particularly in Ayia Napa. Late autumn, fewer crowds, and yet still pleasantly warm days.
However, one key question remained. Is Lindos in October still a genuinely enjoyable destination, or does the town already feel too quiet, with weather that is no longer reliable enough for beach days and swimming in the sea? This article explores exactly that question and shares our personal experiences.
Why Lindos Is Especially Appealing in October
Lindos is one of the most popular destinations on Rhodes, especially during the summer months. At that time, the town is shaped by day trippers, tour groups, and cruise passengers. The narrow streets of the old town are crowded, parking becomes difficult, and moments of calm are rare.
In October, this changes noticeably. The peak season is over, many visitors have already left, and the town feels much more relaxed. At the same time, Lindos is far from deserted. Restaurants, shops, and beaches remain open, and the town still feels alive, just in a far more pleasant and balanced way.
It is precisely this balance that makes October so appealing for many travelers. You benefit from fewer crowds, more comfortable temperatures, and a calmer atmosphere, without having to give up the classic holiday experience. However, October is very close to the end of the season, which is something that should definitely be taken into account when planning your trip.
Weather in Lindos in October – our experience
During our stay, daytime temperatures were usually around 26 degrees Celsius. The intense summer heat had passed, which made everything feel much more comfortable. Walking through the town, going on excursions, and even climbing up to the Acropolis felt far more relaxed than during the peak summer months.
Of course, the weather was not bright blue every single day. There were also cloudy periods, and from time to time we were caught by short rain showers. However, these usually passed quickly and had little impact on our daily plans.
Overall, we found the weather in October to be very well balanced. Warm enough for the beach and swimming, yet at the same time pleasant for activities* and exploring the island. For travelers who prefer to avoid the intense heat of midsummer, this time of year is particularly well suited.

Swimming in Lindos in late October – is it still possible?
One of the most important questions for many travelers is whether swimming in Lindos is still possible in October. Based on our experience, the answer is clearly yes. The sea was surprisingly warm, which was easy to notice as the water had stored heat throughout the summer and releases it only slowly.
We went swimming almost every day, without hesitation and without feeling cold afterward. Swimming at Lindos Beach was particularly enjoyable, with its bright fine sand and clear turquoise water. Especially at the end of October, the beach feels noticeably calmer than in summer. There is more space, fewer people, and still a genuine beach holiday atmosphere.
For us, this combination was ideal. Beach days were still very much possible, yet felt far more relaxed than during the high season.

Our accommodation in Lindos – a location that makes the difference
Our accommodation* was located right at the edge of Lindos old town. It was one of the typical small white houses, and essentially the last house within the old town, which turned out to be a major advantage in everyday life.
The beach was about two hundred meters away, and the same short distance led into the narrow alleys and restaurants of the town center. This location made our stay extremely flexible. In the morning we could easily pick up fresh bread or go out for breakfast, head down to the beach spontaneously at midday, and enjoy the town in the evening without any effort.
The location also worked very well with a rental car*. Two larger parking areas were just a few steps away from the accommodation, so parking was never an issue. However, during the peak summer season these parking lots are likely to be very crowded.
A real highlight was the terrace of our accommodation. From there, we enjoyed views of both the sea and the Acropolis above the town. Especially in the morning and early evening, this view was particularly impressive and had a lasting impact on our stay.

Lindos as a base on Rhodes – everyday life and autumn day trips
For us, Lindos was not just a place to visit for a few hours. Instead, it became our base on the island. From here, we set off on day trips* around Rhodes almost every day, sometimes early in the morning and sometimes completely spontaneously.
Among other places, we visited the Seven Springs, Tsambika Beach, and the monastery above the beach. Especially toward the end of October, these outings felt very relaxed. There were noticeably fewer people, far less rush, and we had more time to really take in each place.
This mix of exploring the island and enjoying calm beach afternoons is exactly what made Lindos such an ideal base for an autumn holiday on Rhodes.

The Acropolis of Lindos – the town’s main highlight
The Acropolis is without a doubt the main attraction in Lindos. From the center of town, the walk up takes around ten minutes. Thanks to the milder temperatures in October, this climb feels far more comfortable than in midsummer.
The view from the top is impressive every single time. You look out over the white houses of the town, the sea, and the coastline. Even in autumn, the visit is absolutely worth it, because the mix of scenery, history, and pleasant weather simply works beautifully.

Evenings, restaurants, and atmosphere in Lindos in October
From late afternoon onward, Lindos changes noticeably. The day visitors head back, and the town becomes quieter. At the same time, Lindos feels more personal and more authentic. The lanes invite you to stroll around, while the small shops selling souvenirs, jewelry, and clothing shape the overall vibe.
One of the special things about Lindos is the large number of rooftop restaurants. Almost every place offers an elevated view over the town or out to the sea. We spent most evenings up there, looking back on the day and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
The overall restaurant quality surprised us in a positive way. Alongside classic Greek dishes made with fresh ingredients, you can also find places with a more refined standard. For that reason, Lindos is a great choice for travelers who care about good food.
End of season in Lindos – when does it get quiet?
By the end of October, Lindos is still lively, yet much more relaxed than in summer. Restaurants and shops remain open, and the town feels calm, but not empty.
From the first of November onward, however, the picture changes quickly. Many shops close, restaurants shut down, and the season ends abruptly. Within a short time, the town becomes very quiet and can even feel almost deserted. This clear cutoff is important to keep in mind when planning your trip.
Conclusion – is Lindos on Rhodes still worth visiting in October?
Our answer is clear. Yes, Lindos is absolutely worth it in October. The weather is often still warm enough for swimming, the sea remains pleasantly warm, and the town feels far more relaxed than during the summer months.
At the same time, there is a clear cutoff point. The last week of October is ideal. After that, it becomes quiet very quickly. If you are looking for calm, comfortable temperatures, and relaxed beach days, and you prefer to avoid crowds, Lindos in October is a very good choice.
