Our Experience at the Acropolis of Lindos – Tickets, Entrance & Tips for Your Visit

The Acropolis of Lindos is one of the most famous landmarks on Rhodes. We visited it at the end of October, when sunshine and rain kept alternating throughout the day. We had originally planned a beach day, but decided to trade the sun for some history instead. In this article, you’ll find out what the climb is like, how much the entrance fee costs, and why the visit is absolutely worth it.

The Climb Through Lindos Old Town to the Acropolis

The path to the Acropolis started right outside our apartment* in the narrow alleys of Lindos Old Town. From there, the route led uphill for about ten minutes until we reached the entrance. The climb wasn’t difficult, but it wasn’t accessible either.

We visited Rhodes at the end of October, and the weather that day was constantly changing. Sunshine and rain alternated almost by the minute, but that didn’t dampen our mood. Since it was too unsettled for a beach day, we decided to explore the castle instead. Apparently, many other visitors had the same idea, and even in the off-season it felt quite lively. During the summer months, it’s likely to be much busier.

During the climb, short but intense rain showers kept surprising us, sending us running for cover under the nearest trees. The higher you go, the more impressive the view becomes, revealing Lindos and the sea below. Just before the entrance, there’s a small bar with a viewpoint and a public toilet. That’s the only restroom in the area – there are none inside the Acropolis itself.

Tickets & Entrance Information for the Acropolis of Lindos

We hadn’t planned ahead and were a bit surprised to find that the castle required an entrance fee. We bought our tickets directly at the counter, which was easy in the off-season. The entrance fee was €20 per adult. Children and young adults under 25 years old from EU countries could enter for free. We were surprised at first, but that’s what we were told when buying the tickets.

During the summer months, it’s usually better to book your tickets online in advance* to avoid long waiting times. If you’ve already purchased your tickets online, you only need to show them at the entrance to be scanned.

At the Top of the Acropolis – Views & History

Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with the most stunning view over Lindos, the beaches, and the Aegean Sea. The ruins tell stories from many eras, from ancient Greece to the Middle Ages. One of the most impressive sights is the reconstructed Temple of Athena Lindia.

Make sure to walk all the way to the southern end of the fortress. From there, you’ll have a breathtaking view of the sea and St. Paul’s Bay. The colors of the water shift beautifully from light turquoise to deep blue.

If you’d like to learn more about the history, joining a guided tour* is definitely worth it. We preferred to wander freely, explore the ruins, and take lots of photos. In total, we spent about two hours up here – and the time passed by in no time at all.
