Seelöwen und Robben Show, 3 Trainer mit 3 großen Robben auf der Bühne im Zoomarine Algarve Freizeitpark

Zoomarine Algarve Portugal: Tips, Attractions & Our Experience

If you are at the Algarve, a visit to the unique theme park Zoomarine Algarve Portugal is a must. What makes this park so special is its perfect combination of zoological areas, exciting shows, rides, large pools, and water slides.

We have already visited the park three times and experienced everything it has to offer. On this page, we’ll show you the main areas and attractions of this fantastic theme park.

Recommendation: Due to the park’s high popularity as one of the main attractions in the entire Algarve, it is advisable to reserve tickets in advance. You can easily book your entry tickets online through the following website.*

Shows at Zoomarine Algarve Portugal

The various animal presentations and shows are among the main attractions of the theme park. The dolphin show is probably the most spectacular one in the park. However, the sea lion and seal shows are also impressive, showcasing just how smart and talented these animals are. Their tricks and swimming skills are truly fascinating.

We also really enjoyed the parrot show Magic Rainbow. This show takes place at the wave pool area of Zoomarine Beach.

Little tip: Try to stand right at the front. The trainers will let the parrots fly spectacularly close above your head during the show.

Other highlights include the birds of prey show featuring falcons, eagles, and owls, as well as the acrobatic pirate show, which strongly resembles “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Swimming with Dolphins at Zoomarine Algarve

At Zoomarine*, you have the unique opportunity to play and swim with dolphins in the pool. However, you will need a special ticket* for this experience.

During our last visit, we booked the dolphin swimming experience, and we did not regret it. The program is called the Dolphin Emotions Premium Experience, and it must be booked online in advance*.

Before the dolphin swimming experience officially begins, there is a briefing and some useful tips on how to behave in the water with the animals. After that, each participant receives a wetsuit. It’s up to you whether you want to wear it, but I highly recommend it. The water in the dolphin pools is significantly colder than in regular swimming pools.

In our group, two participants decided not to wear the wetsuit, and they were so cold in the water that they shivered for the entire 35 minutes. The total duration of the experience is 60 minutes, with 35 minutes spent in the pool with the dolphins. As you can see in the video, there are always several dolphin trainers in the pool, giving instructions and answering questions.

We really enjoyed swimming with the dolphins. If it’s also your dream to swim with dolphins, this is your chance to make it come true. You can reserve your dolphin swimming tickets here*.

Zoo and Aquarium

The second major area of the theme park is the zoological enclosures and the aquarium. Make sure to visit the butterfly garden, where you can see plenty of colorful and exotic butterflies. You also shouldn’t miss the aquarium. One of its highlights is an open tank where numerous rays swim around. The animals are not shy and even allow visitors to touch them.

In the tropical enclosure, you’ll mainly see tropical birds. Don’t walk through it too quickly, as there is a rather inconspicuous sloth in the trees that you might easily miss despite its size.

Additionally, there is a crocodile pool, a turtle area, and a large rehabilitation center for marine animals.

Rides

The Zoomarine* also offers a variety of classic amusement rides, similar to those you would find at a funfair. Most of these rides are slightly smaller than usual. In addition to a Ferris wheel, there’s a swing ship, a roller coaster, two carousels, and several other small rides.

The highlight among the rides is the large Jurassic River. Here, you’ll embark on a rafting adventure through the dinosaur park, traveling along a long and winding river.

There’s also a 4-D cinema that we highly recommend. It offers two different shows—one is quite scary and may not be suitable for smaller children, while the other is a fun and entertaining film.

Pools and Water Slides at Zoomarine Algarve Portugal

Of course, you can also spend a relaxing day at the park by enjoying the large pools or water slides.

The large grounds feature five huge pools for children. Additionally, there’s the impressive Zoomarine Beach Pool, surrounded by a sandy beach and numerous tropical plants. The pool also serves as a wave pool, generating waves at regular intervals.

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, the water slides are perfect. The park offers a total of eight slides, with four being large and fast, while the remaining ones are suitable for smaller children.

Dining and Shopping Options

Inside the theme park, you’ll find three restaurants and a snack bar. The food selection at the restaurants ranges from hamburgers and pizza to pasta and much more.

At the Bamboo Restaurant, you can enjoy a varied buffet and a grill service with an all-you-can-eat option. The snack bar, on the other hand, offers a wide range of sweet treats.

The shops are located both at the entrance area and opposite the Ferris wheel. Here, you’ll have the chance to purchase a variety of souvenirs.

Conclusion: Zoomarine Algarve Portugal

During your stay at the Algarve, a visit to Zoomarine* should definitely be on your agenda. The theme park stands out with its unique design and a wide range of shows, rides, spacious pools, and water slides, promising a wonderful day for visitors of all ages.

A particular highlight is the chance to swim with dolphins*—a dream come true for you, your family, or your children. If this wish has remained unfulfilled so far, the unique opportunity at Zoomarine might be the perfect choice for you.

If you are primarily looking for high and fast water slides, we recommend visiting Slide and Splash* in the Algarve. There you’ll find everything from splash pools for the little ones to thrilling disco slides and extreme free-fall slides.
