A day trip to Limassol was, of course, a must during our journey through Cyprus. On our way from Ayia Napa to Paphos, we explored the city and its top attractions as a stopover.

Our Journey to Limassol
Limassol is easy to spot even from the highway. The tall skyscrapers that dominate the city’s skyline are particularly striking. The traffic here was noticeably heavier compared to other cities we visited in Cyprus. Overall, Limassol felt like the busiest city on the island to us.
Parking and walk in Molos Park
Our first stop was Molos Park, one of the most popular attractions in Limassol. This long and beautiful waterfront promenade stretches directly along the sea and provides the perfect place to soak in the city’s atmosphere. The park is thoughtfully designed and impresses visitors with numerous sculptures by various artists, blending modern and traditional art styles.
Along the promenade, there are also several playgrounds where children can let off steam, as well as cozy piers that extend directly into the water. Many cafés and snack stands invite you to take a break and enjoy the view of the sea.
We parked our rental car* here and took a leisurely stroll through the park. While walking, we admired the artworks, let the fresh sea breeze inspire us, and enjoyed coffee at one of the cafés. From there, we continued on foot directly to the next attraction: Ayia Napa Cathedral.
Ayia Napa Cathedral and a stroll through the old town
Just a few hundred meters south of Molos Park lies the Ayia Napa Cathedral, right in the heart of Limassol’s old town. This impressive church is renowned for its beautiful architecture and its central location.
Unfortunately, the church was closed during our visit, but that didn’t stop us from exploring the old town. We strolled through the charming streets, browsed a few shops, and visited the remarkable market hall. This was a true highlight, bustling with activity and offering a variety of local products and souvenirs.
Limassol Attractions Outside the City: Kolossi, Kourion, and Aphrodite’s Rock
In addition to the highlights in the city center, there are several impressive attractions west of Limassol that are perfect for a day trip. These destinations are easy to reach by car and offer fascinating insights into Cyprus’s rich history and stunning natural beauty.
We visited three of these remarkable places: Kolossi Castle, the ancient archaeological site of Kourion, and the famous Aphrodite’s Rock.
The impressive Kolossi Castle
Our first stop outside the city was Kolossi Castle, located about 20 minutes west of Limassol. This massive fortress, dating back to the 13th century, originally served as a base for the Knights of the Order of St. John. Later, it was also used for sugar production, which further highlights its economic significance in the region.
We definitely recommend a brief visit to the castle, as you can explore several rooms inside. While these rooms are simple and sparsely furnished, they still provide an interesting glimpse into the fortress’s history. However, the real highlight is the rooftop terrace: from here, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape, characterized by fields and vineyards.
The Ancient Archaeological Site of Kourion
After visiting Kolossi Castle, we drove about 10 minutes further west and arrived at the impressive archaeological site of Kourion. This location is one of the most important historical sites in Cyprus and offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s rich history.
The expansive grounds are well-developed, featuring both a visitor center and ample parking. During our visit in November, we were almost alone, which was likely due to the relaxed atmosphere of the quiet off-season.
The location of Kourion is truly spectacular. Perched high on a hill, it offers breathtaking views of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. Particularly impressive are the intricately preserved mosaics and the beautifully restored theater, which was once used for performances.
A visit to Kourion is an absolute must for anyone interested in history and for those who appreciate stunning panoramic views.
Aphrodite’s Rock
Our final highlight on this route is one of Cyprus’s most famous landmarks: Aphrodite’s Rock. This impressive rock formation, located about 30 minutes west of Kourion, is a place filled with mythology and natural beauty.
Situated on a picturesque pebble beach, the rock is said to be the spot where the goddess Aphrodite emerged from the sea. This legend makes it a unique attraction that draws visitors from all over the world.
Above the beach, there is a spacious parking area, and a tunnel beneath the road provides direct access to the shoreline. We took the opportunity for a quick swim and snapped some beautiful photos before continuing our journey to Paphos.
