We originally booked a boat tour* to reach the lagoon, but due to windy weather, the tour was canceled at short notice. Determined to see the Blue Lagoon, we decided to visit it via the land route.
At first, we considered driving the route with our rental car*. During a previous trip to the ghost town of Varosha*, a fellow traveler mentioned that she had driven to the Blue Lagoon in a rental car without any issues.
However, when we saw the rough gravel road, we had serious doubts about whether it would be possible to complete the journey without causing visible damage to the car. Ultimately, we decided to rent buggies* to tackle the route safely.
The buggy ride quickly became one of the highlights of our day. The rugged coastal trail was a real adventure, and after about 30 minutes, we reached the Blue Lagoon.
Upon arrival, it was immediately clear why boats couldn’t anchor that day—the sea was too choppy. However, we noticed several visitors swimming in the lagoon, so we decided to join them.
We parked our buggies and found a natural staircase leading down to the lagoon. The descent was easy, and before long, we were standing in the lagoon’s shallow water. The water here is very shallow, allowing you to walk far out with ease.
Interestingly, the waves in the lagoon appeared larger and more powerful than they actually were. The water remained calm, and we spent quite some time enjoying the unique atmosphere of this stunning spot.

Do not attempt to drive this route with a rental car. Within the first few hundred meters, we saw travelers struggling with their vehicles. The road to the Blue Lagoon stretches over five kilometers and features challenging terrain that is only suitable for off-road vehicles or buggies.
