Coming from Berlin, Hamburg is just around the corner. We’ve visited this impressive and vibrant city many times. And ever since the OMR has become one of the leading marketing events in Germany, we’ve made it a point to return every May.
The conference is always packed with inspiration, new ideas, conversations and energy – and yes, it can also be exhausting. That’s exactly why we treated ourselves to a little break on the first day and took a relaxing Hamburg harbor boat tour. We left the buzz behind and enjoyed the open water and fresh air.
A harbor boat tour to unwind

When it comes to mixing city life and maritime charm, Hamburg is probably one of a kind in Germany. The combination of water, wind and the backdrop of a bustling harbor creates a unique vibe. This harbor tour gave us exactly what we needed: time to slow down, breathe and take it all in.
During the tour, you’ll see container terminals, historic museum ships, the famous Elbphilharmonie and the Speicherstadt from a whole new perspective. On top of that, the captain shares some fun and insightful stories — often with a touch of dry northern German humor.

Alternatively, you can just head to the Landungsbrücken piers and get your ticket on the spot. Most providers operate every 30 minutes — depending on availability.

More sights to explore beyond the conference
If you have some spare time after the conference or on day two, it’s worth checking out more of Hamburg’s highlights. The city is compact, and many top sights are located close together — easy to reach on foot or by metro:

- Elbphilharmonie
- St. Michael’s Church
- Planten un Blomen Park
- Landungsbrücken Piers
- Hamburg City Hall
- Museum Ship Rickmer Rickmers
And then there was the shrimp sandwich

Shrimp sandwiches are kind of a must when you’re in Hamburg. But something feels off when it comes to pricing. At many food stands, there’s no clear price, just the vague note “daily price.”
We asked and were told: €13.50. No further explanation. According to the vendor, the price changes often. Why? Nobody really knows.
Our stay: Citadines Michel Hamburg

We stayed at the Citadines Michel Hamburg*. The location is excellent — just a three-minute walk to St. Michael’s Church and about ten minutes to the Reeperbahn.
We even received a complimentary upgrade and got to enjoy a fully equipped apartment with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, separate toilet and a small kitchen.
Our verdict: Perfect for anyone traveling to Hamburg for business or leisure who wants to stay somewhere central and comfortable.
Conclusion: Business meets breathing room
Hamburg isn’t just a great place for big events like the OMR. It’s also a city where you can truly pause between meetings and recharge. The spontaneous harbor boat tour, the unexpectedly spacious apartment and a bit of salty air in the middle of the city, that’s what made this trip special for us.
In the end, we didn’t just return with inspiration from the conference, but also with a quiet moment and a reminder that sometimes, travel and work go surprisingly well together.
